1920S EXCELSIOR ACCORDION FULL
A full size, 41 key keyboard is 19.5 inches wide. Here's another important thing: what size are the keys, and how many keys are there? If you are an adult male, an accordion with child size or women's size keys won't work for you. Ask the seller to take photos of the reed banks inside the accordion so that you can see whether all the reeds are still mounted on the board and if the leather valves are curled up. Do all the keys work and all the notes sound in all registers? Do the bellows leak? Do the register switches work? Does it smell funky - either from mold or tobacco smoke? It's almost impossible to get rid of these odors.

If you decide to buy a vintage accordion on line, there are several things to watch for: first of all, is it in tune? Depending on what part of the country you live, it might be tough to fine someone who can tune an accordion. In general, the best vintage accordions are Italian made. Piano keyboard accordions are easier to learn by virtue of the logic of the keyboard, but still not easy when you add the bass and chord accompaniment on the left hand.Īs with any other instrument, there are all levels of quality, and with the accordion, you have several options as far as reed voicing. The diatonic button accordion, whether two row or three row, is very difficult to play. Now, as far as accordions, I have a few and they're fun to play, but it's not as easy as it looks.
